It's not often my head is turned by a gown that isn't simple and monochromatic, but when I first saw this one, I literally gasped out loud. Naturally, I went and looked it up, and was more surprised to learn that it was a Vivienne Westwood. I'm not normally attracted to her gowns, nor to gowns that are inspired by flags (it's the Union Jack), but the way this is cut and draped is absolutely stunning, like a vintage watercolor abstract rendition come to life. Unfortunately, even at
70% off, I still can't afford a gown like this (and after all, where would I wear it!?). And now I see it's no longer available. But I can still admire, right? I guess tastes
do change!
Vivienne Westwood is one of my design idols, though my work is nothing like hers. I love how fearless she is, and how complex and layered her designs are.
ReplyDeleteShe's always been a little "out there" for me, but I guess as I learn more about textiles and get more appreciative of the art form, I love the beauty in it and become willing to embrace the daring.
