Yellow is the Standout Color of 2013 (Sorry, Pantone)

A little over a year ago I was into green before Pantone decided to make emerald the color of 2013. I still adore green, but like always, I'm a little rebellious in what I see as the color of the moment. And right now? That color is yellow. Not quite the "lemon zest" yellow that makes up Pantone's spring 2013 palette, but a more vibrant yellow, like "Yellow C."

I'm seeing yellow everywhere on Pinterest, from fashion to home decor, and it's like a burst of much needed laughter in the new year. Emerald green was chosen for its ability to enhance "our sense of well-being, balance, and harmony," which we all need in 2013, but I'm being drawn to the laughter and playfulness of bright yellow, and I don't think I'm the only one.

Yellow has long been paired with gray in both fashion and design, and cute as it is together, I think it's (sadly) been overdone. The new, fresh pairing is yellow with black and white. Don't believe me?

Fresh and fun! If you want to really push the envelope on those colors together, toss in a bit of emerald green (I could so see an emerald green pillow on that chair). Me, though? I'll probably just stick to yellow accents in my wardrobe.

Maybe I'll even be bold enough to try it head to toe- tastefully, of course.

Does yellow have a place in your home or wardrobe this year? Go ahead! Be daring! Inject a little happy into your 2013!

  1. I thought something like lemon sorbet was going to be the color of the year too! I'm planning to decorate my best friend's living room in yellow and grey.

  2. Camille, Pantone did include lemon yellow (very close to lemon sorbet) in their 2013 Spring palette. So good call! Take pics of your friend's living room; I'm sure it'll be lovely!
